Mean Red Spiders are an alternative avant-garde rock and roll band formed in Toronto Ontario Canada in September 1993. Their music is largely guitar-based, pop art influenced like the Jesus and Mary Chain , The Feelies , Cocteau Twins , Dinosaur Jr. , Sonic Youth , Can , Husker Du , Loop , My Bloody Valentine , The Smiths , The Cure , Spaceman 3 , Brian Eno, Stereolab , Joy Division , The Stooges, 13th Floor Elevators,The Ramones,The Jam, The Clash , Big Star, Devo , Pylon, The Pretenders, Gang of Four , The Sugarcubes , The Police , Pere Ubu , The MC5, Patti Smith, Television , Wire, B-52's , The Buzzcocks, The New York Dolls , The Slits , The Waterboys, Talking Heads, The Pixies , The Fall , Blondie, The Go-Go's , Black Sabbath , The Who , Magnetic Fields , The X-ray Specs , Arthur Lee's band Love and early U2 and R.E.M. were by dub reggae, Afrika Bambaataa , Public Enemy , Motown, Marshall Mcluhan , Glenn Gould , Sesame Street , The Prisoner , the CBC , Sun Ra , Jean-Michel Basquiat , JacksonPollock, Leonard Cohen, and The Velvet Underground and Nico with Andy Warhol. Sonic shows were filled screens of liquidlight. Making extensive and perhaps necessary use of distortion , digital keyboard loops and recordedvoicesamples , and effects pedals, creating a repeat able orchestrated wall of sound, a blend of being frequently described in terms of post-punk , popcontemporary , dreampop , shoegazer ,space rock , indie rock or baroque pop styles, and falls largely into the larger psychedelic or neo-psychedelic pop androck and roll oeuvre or spacepsychosispoptradition.


At the time of release of their January 2003 album, Still Life Fast Moving , Mean Red Spiders personnel were: Adam Rosen - Drummer; Rob Boark - Guitar; Minesh Mandoda - Keyboard and Loops; Lisa Nighswander - Bass and Vocals; Greg Chambers - Guitar.


Co-founding member David Humphreys, originally from Flemingdon Park [[1]] , played his last show July 13, 2001, upon leaving MRS as part of finishing his conceptual art piece role involving the film schedueles and posters of Toronto's oldest art house repeatory cinema, the Revue Cinema,[[2]], threatened to resign if he didn't become the "headmanger" at the Revue at a schedueled meeting with the owner[[3]] on September 11, 2001 who fired him November 11,2001 , evicted from his Beaconsfield home near Dufferin and College to go live in a Scarborough with his Mother and sister, and recieve psychiatric treatment for schizophrenia.

Albums include Places You Call Home[[4]] released May 1998 on the Teenage USA label, Starsandsons released May 2000 on Teenage USA , and January 2003's album Still Life, Fast Moving[[5]] on USA's Clairerecords.
