11/18 "controversy"[edit]

This section does not need to be a part of this article. The article is about the 15 year history of Joe Gibbs Racing... now honestly, was this little incident SO significant that it needs to be mentioned here? In its own section, no less?? It would fit, at least when written without bias, in the 2008 Dan Lowry 400 article, or even briefly in the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series page. But not here. And for any disgruntled Jr fans who just cant seem to get over this, i seem to remember Jr once spinning himself out on purpose at Bristol to get a caution he wanted. It's not even close to the first time this type of thing has happened, it's nothing new. But like anything else, when Dale Jr is involved, it seems that things need to get blown out of proportion for some reason. --MP 103 06 (talk) 16:41, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Article size[edit]

This is currently the fourth-largest article on Wikipedia. About 40% of this article is in the large data tables. They are not very easy to read, and the level of detail may be excessive. See WP:NOTDB. If any of these numbers are interesting of their own accord, they could instead be placed among prose (X first did Y at race Z), or perhaps be summarized in some sort of visual.

Contrast with New York Yankees which doesn't have much emphasis on raw stats. Wizmut (talk) 07:10, 7 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the tables, which actually accounted for 72% of the article's gargantuan size, because they breach the WP:INDISCRIMINATE policy, especially WP:NOTDATABASE. Any attempts to reinstate them without discussion on this talk page should be treated as disruptive editing per WP:ONUS. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 18:21, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Appreciate you taking the step.
If anyone believes article-appropriate content (prose, preferably) can be gleaned from the tables, this is a version which contains all of them:[1]. Wizmut (talk) 18:29, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@AirshipJungleman29 Shouldn't we retain these tables and move them to individual articles? The Yankees article does have tables like this, but subpages exist with the information. glman (talk) 19:57, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If individual articles exist and including the tables in them would not violate WP:WEIGHT and WP:NOTDATABASE, then yes. That is, there would have to be articles titled "Joe Gibbs Racing Car No. 11" which meet the notability criteria, which are independent enough of this article per WP:NOPAGE, and which are long enough that the table would not be a sizeable proportion of the article. That seems unlikely. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 21:18, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Other large teams, such as Hendrick Motorsports, have broken the entire Cup Series history off to a separate page. Probably the best option here. glman (talk) 22:19, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Draft:Joe Gibbs Racing in the NASCAR Cup Series
Could something like this work? RBF48 (talk) 19:49, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, this is exactly what I think works best. It's the same solution we came to with Hendrick Motorsports in the NASCAR Cup Series, which is basically the same situation. glman (talk) 20:17, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Should there be also separate article for the Xfinity Series, similar to RFK Racing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, or is it good as is? RBF48 (talk) 23:45, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
