Affiliation with Infineon Technologies[edit]

Judging by it's name and logo, Infineon Technologies. Infineon Raceway's logo includes Infineon Technologies logo, and if you visit Infineon Raceway's website, Infineon's logo is in the bottom of the page, and it links to Infineon Technologies home page. I cannot find any other remarks about a possible affiliation, but I do think that the link, name, and logo should be sufficient proof. I have not modified the actual page, but I do think this possible affiliation is important to discuss, and to consider adding. aminy23 (talk) 01:53, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Not affiliated with Sears[edit]

Despite is name, Sears Point Raceway was in no way affiliated with Sears department stores. 67.188.172.165 21:43, 24 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

On a related note, I don't like the idea that we're supposed to change the name here whenever a new corporation buys a racetrack. The people I know who drive at this track, and even NASCAR drivers I've seen on TV, call it Sears Point, and that's what I think we should call it. ENeville 19:16, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Whether we like it or not, what is on the front of that grandstands, whoever pays for it, is the official name, and as such, is the article title. If we wish to mention historical names, that is right and proper too. -slowpokeiv 02:13, 7 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I guess I see it the other way around. The Wikipedia:Naming conventions say, and I think this makes sense, "article naming should give priority to what the majority of English speakers would most easily recognize". The name people know something by is the real name, whether the corporate moneybags like it or not, and it's their sponsored name that should be mentioned . I agree with your expression of policy, and with your sentiment not to kowtow to Infineon just because they paid a bunch of money, but in practice, the new name is the one most people would, or will, recognize: people who actually have raced there or been there will still know it as Sears Point, but anyone from far away, for example reading a newspaper report on a race there or watching a broadcast, is going to know it as Infineon because that's what the press calls it. Sad but true. Sadder with, say Candlestick Park... atakdoug (talk) 11:16, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lap records.[edit]

I think it should be noted that the NASCAR lap time is on the short course. I was about to say that it was an error to have the Cup car being faster than an LMP, but then realized it was correct, just not clear. 210.49.66.235 12:11, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

More detailed graphic available?[edit]

I'm pleased to see the turn-by-turn discusion of the changes to the track's layout, but without a corresponding graphic showing turn numbers, it really doesn't work. Does anyone know where to find one of those?

(Also, incidentally, shouldn't we point out the rather well-known name of turn 6 (though my numbers may be rusty): the carousel. I don't know a source, but some of y'all must. atakdoug (talk) 11:13, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of Sports Car Races[edit]

The racetrack no longer has sports car racing. I actually contacted them, and they claimed it was because they claimed it was because they wanted to at least avoid losing money if not profit from them. 76.126.15.78 (talk) 16:01, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, they have been holding the same number of sports car races annually for a number of years: 1. There are fewer SCCA classes races held there than in previous years; perhaps that's what they meant? Kenhullett (talk) 17:42, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There's no evidence of a trend. They replaced ALMS with Grand Am. They still have a major annual vintage event. The TransAm series has been defunct for years. Speed World Challenge is a minor support series. The reduction in SCCA races has to do with a falling out between the track's management and the local SCCA region, but that's amateur-level racing anyways. Don't put this section back in without a reliable cited reference. Kenhullett (talk) 01:36, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm terribly sorry. 76.126.15.78 (talk) 05:39, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate the effort, but it's speculation and original research, and therefore has no place on wikipedia. Kenhullett (talk) 06:56, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

IRL[edit]

The Indy Racing League doesn't exist anymore. Shouldn't this be update to reference the IZOD IndyCar Series? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zipsix (talkcontribs) 16:22, 18 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Name[edit]

Should the article be renamed now that the course is no longer called Infineon Raceway? AmericanLeMans (talk) 01:46, 1 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It seems as if they don't even have a name for it. From this it says for the next few months it will be called by its location, Sonoma, and it wouldn't have a formal name. So if you want to go forward with the move, I'd say either leave it alone or move it to Sonoma Raceway. -- Nascar1996(TalkContribs) 01:56, 1 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, should be renamed to Sonoma Raceway, even if only temporarily because that is the current name. It would be wrong to leave the name as Infineon Raceway. Bakkster Man (talk) 13:29, 1 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
