Okay, I've been bold (Warsaw Uprising replaces US census, especially for the 60th anniversary). I wasn't so sure that this was the right deletion, but the census article doesn't make such a big thing about the first US census and there were many other earlier ones which aren't listed. I've added the outbreak of World War I (it's the 80th anniversary tomorrow), which is surely a significant anniversary. However, this pushes the number of articles over the allowed limit of four. I've removed the People's Liberation Army and Charles Whitman items, as they are clearly less significant than the remaining four. -- ChrisO 12:39, 31 Jul 2004 (UTC)

WWI is already a sel anniv on Template:July 28 selected anniversaries. --mav 03:33, 2 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Any chance we could put the Northern Hemisphere's Lammas on here alongside the Southern Hemisphere's Imbolc? - Jredmond (talk) 18:41, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How about including the discovery of Lindow Man for this date? It was an Iron-Age bog body found in 1984 which caused something of a media sensation and was an important archaeological discovery. I'm not sure which article would go though if it were to be included. Obviously the discovery of oxygen should be kept as the article is a Featured Article. Lindow Man is currently at WP:FAC and has been a Good Article for nearly two years so is of a good standard. The least developed article linked from the 1 August anniversary page is that of the Nanchang Uprising, so might that be replaced by the Lindow Man article? Swiss National Day[edit]

Hello,
Why do'nt you mark in the box that today is the Swiss National Day, while we mark the Caribbean's Emancipation Day , which is'nt a national holiday?
Thanks,--Anas1712 (talk) 08:18, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Swiss National Day is tagged as having no references. Per the rules at WP:OTD, we cannot include it. howcheng {chat} 08:48, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Some changes - 2016[edit]

@Howcheng: Please note that I-35W Mississippi River bridge is a good article and can apparently be moved to the eligible list. --Mhhossein (talk) 05:03, 31 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Propose we include Muslim conquest of Sicily (3rd appearance, last in 2018); Lombard Street riot (3rd appearance, last in 2017); Warsaw Uprising (10th appearance, last in 2013, but 75th anniversary and appears to be eligible again); Lindow Man (3rd appearance, last in 2014; 35th anniversary); 2009 Tel Aviv gay centre shooting (3rd appearance, last in 2015; 10th anniversary) as well as Herman Melville (born 1819, 200th) and Ottavio Bottecchia (born 1894, 125th). I also propose using The Concert for Bangladesh for the first time and suggested an image for it. Please correct if I got something wrong. Jonathunder (talk) 22:30, 25 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Found and cropped what I think will be a good image of Melville for his 200th birthday. Jonathunder (talk) 17:10, 29 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Quick question[edit]

@Vaticidalprophet: Still a bit new, but where has Kurmanbek Bakiyev and the 527 fact about the death of Justin I gone? They have disappeared and I'm trying to figure out why they were removed. Have they become ineligible? Heart (talk) 23:45, 31 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

HeartGlow30797, OTD listings are swapped out yearly. Some editors want to change over the entire set each year, which you can see in the edit history -- I haven't always found that necessary so far, but the general list as a whole is refreshed. Vaticidalprophet 12:06, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I understand that, but the 527 entry was just deleted, not moved to Ineligible or anything. What was wrong with the article. Or is there someplace else that it goes. Heart (talk) 12:09, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
