Untitled[edit]

Hope this is a helpful start (based on fr:Équipe_d'Angleterre_de_football_féminin. I'll try to improve it a bit myself... Rnt20 21:47, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Oh god -- the English language football infoboxes look a nightmare. I think I'll quit for tonight! Rnt20 21:51, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I've added the current squad as I found it on the offical website. The Halo (talk) 14:05, 4 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dates?[edit]

The page states the team's finishing positions in international tournaments held in 1969, 1970 and 1971, but the infobox gives the date of the team's first international as 1972.....? - ChrisTheDude 12:36, 7 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think the 1972 date refers to the first official international match. Exactly what counts as official, I don't know. --StuartBrady (Talk) 15:09, 7 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Crest picture[edit]

The crest pictured in the infobox confuses me, does the team actually wear that crest (with the single star above)? Or is that just a copy from the men's team? For those who don't know what I'm talking about, national teams usually wear a star for each World Cup championship, and the England women's team have never won. --Xyzzyva 17:50, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Olympics[edit]

Do they compete?andycjp (talk) 05:46, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I believe in women's football it's a much more prestigious event, perhaps even up there with the World Cup. I'll try and find the past results... Yohan euan o4 (talk) 18:53, 6 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No, they can't compete because England doesn't have a NOC (Britain does), and Scotland/Wales/NI are unwilling to compromise their status as a national team. Yohan euan o4 (talk) 19:02, 6 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not the case for the men's team where an English side will take part representing Great Britain and Northern Ireland for the 2012 games, so I'm assuming that the same will be possible for the women's team. Otherwise, it's true, they don't normally compete 8lgm (talk) 08:33, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Updates[edit]

I love the improvements to this article @User:Fuebaey - just some small suggestions: The names of the first goalscorers aren't in the source given and the November 2014 match was the first at new Wembley but not Wembley per se (Carolina Morace once scored four goals there against England). Kerry Davis and Hope Powell should be in the top goalscorer's list - and maybe Linda Curl, for all anyone knows - we're obviously jarring up against WP:OR a bit here! Thanks again for your great work. 94.0.26.47 (talk) 21:31, 20 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Appreciate the feedback. It's my first major article overhaul - any suggestions are welcome - though still a work in progress, so please bear with me. Looking to research, then write (pushing myself to do this instead of lurking) and then attribute, which may explain why not everything is sourced at the moment. My next aim is to expand the early years under Powell and then start a section about team image (i.e. colours/stadium/managers) like other national teams.
The BBC reference mentions that Sylvia Gore scored the first England goal in that match but there's some debate about who scored the other goals; some state Pat Davies scored both, others attribute a goal to Jeannie Allott. I haven't yet found a reliable source for them so I'll replace the end of that sentence the next chance I get. The Wembley match points to the article for the new stadium but I can clarify that further (read somewhere that Gillian Coultard also got a cap for playing at the old stadium). Player records are mainly based on media reports (as far as I'm aware the FA doesn't maintain an online statistic database, unlike the DFB), so there may be some discrepancy. If I can source their goal tallies I'll add them. Fuebaey (talk) 13:22, 21 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations[edit]

Congratulations on making it to today's listing on the "Did You Know..." section of Wikipedia Main Page. The process of making it the listing takes a bit of effort and involves the quick cooperation of many editors. All involved deserve recognition, appreciation, thanks and applause.

Kelly Smith also what?[edit]

"Players" section's subsection "Player records" has this strange sentence: Smith has also scored the highest number of goals for England, with 46 over a twenty year international career.
But Kelly Smith is not mentioned elsewhere in the article, except tables and sources. Infobox has her as the best goalscorer and above table as a "recent callup", but that's it. Seems that something has been removed from that chapter, since currently it doesn't make sense. 82.141.119.103 (talk) 01:55, 5 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Potential Errors in Caps, Goals, and Recent Callups[edit]

The squad section has not been updated regularly, so there may be players missing and errors in caps & goals. (e.g., 2016 SheBelieves Cup squad may include players that were not called up for later matches, but because no one was actively maintaining it they could be missed.) Any source, etc., where someone could check for the accuracy of info listed here? mightytotems (talk) 18:24, 11 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yellow cards in summaries[edit]

It is not normal in these summaries (for most major nations), nor inherently notable, to list Yellow Cards in matches. There has been some discussion and consensus on this in Wiki Project football in the past. This practice appears to have commenced only in the past few months. Whether the FA reports yellow cards as standard, and whether Wikipedia collects this information, are different things. Matilda Maniac (talk) 12:42, 2 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ella Toone[edit]

Why is Ella Toone classed as a midfielder, she plays as a forward for United. Even the FA shouldn't be trusted as a reliable source for this seen as they call her a forward and midfielder in the same article.[1] Mn1548 (talk) 17:20, 31 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ella Toone is a versatile player capable of playing as a midfielder and as a forward. Her Wikipedia page describes her as an attacking midfielder. Mattstan (talk) 17:50, 1 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
