Inclusion of Santa Cruz and San Benito Counties[edit]

I saw an edit by Nyttend which added Santa Cruz and San Benito Counties along with their cities to the template. At first my reaction was, "those aren't among the nine counties of the Bay Area." But on the San Francisco Bay Area page, it points out those are included in the Census Bureau's definition of the contiguous metro area. And the Census Bureau is usually WP's preferred reference when available. So after looking through that, now I agree. You've also got me thinking I should update List of airports in the San Francisco Bay Area and its accompanying navbox to be consistent with this. Ikluft (talk) 15:30, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What you saw was Nyttend's version after he changed that article.[1]. It has been reverted back since it appears he made a change without participating in the endless discussions on Talk:San Francisco Bay Area regarding San Benito and Santa Cruz counties. Cheers. Thanks for the heads-up. I had already made the changes to List of airports in the San Francisco Bay Area. For the airports list it's a toss-up either way, and makes at least as much sense with the wider definition. I posted an explanation on Talk:List of airports in the San Francisco Bay Area why I suggest leaving it that way, at least for now. Ikluft (talk) 03:55, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Outlying areas[edit]

I think the template could be trimmed of some outlying areas, but such trimming must be judicious. Certainly, all of Contra Costa and Alameda counties are considered part of the East Bay, per such authority as East Bay Regional Park District, which includes every portion of those two counties. The primary idea was that this was suppose to be metropolitan area template listing municipalities and communities, not a pure geographical region template. Since the consensus is that the SF Bay Area metro area consists of nine counties, those communities in those counties should be included in the template. Template:Monterey Bay Area[edit]

For those on the fence about whether this template should cover the northern bits of the Monterey Bay, fence-sit no more, there is now a {{Monterey Bay Area}} template for you. -- Charlesreid1 (talk) 01:51, 27 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
