How do I cite in a list in columns?[edit]

I want to include some more names on a list of people and put a citation number after their name to confirm they belong on that list of professionals. The list is divided into columns using a column template and so I can't use visual edit to insert the citation number and reference as when I am in Edit, it is tin the template and I can't inset a ref after the name in the template LPascal (talk) 08:39, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

if another editor wants to work out how to do this for me, the List is List of Christian theologians#20th century and the person is Yolanda Pierce. LPascal (talk) 08:54, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yolanda Pierce already appears on that list. I'm not particularly familiar with the Visual Editor, but if you edit the source it would be as simple as adding the citation immediately following the name. DonIago (talk) 20:09, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
When a list is presented in columns, it is pretty difficult to edit from visual editor. If your only experience adding citations is through visual editor, it can be next to impossible. If you have a lot of citations to add to section, you could temporarily remove the code forming the columns, added your citations as per normal, and then restore the code for columns. Rfc: inclusion of -elect official into List of president/vice president/prime minister[edit]

Should a "list of leaders"-type article like list of president of xxx, list of vice president of yyy, list of prime ministers of zzz, or similar officials also includes those who are designated as "-elect"? Ckfasdf (talk) 01:28, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No: I can't think of a specific example off the top of my head, but I could see this leading to confusion in situations where someone is elected to office but never actually ends up taking the position (due to dying before the inauguration, some type of revolution or significant political change, etc). And more generally, a "president-elect" is under no definition the same as a "president", so I don't think it makes sense to include it in a list of "presidents". Rovenrat (talk) 12:36, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No. Until they're sworn in or vested or what-have-you, they're not actually holding the office. We could make a rule about not adding till their election results are certified, but that's needlessly complex compared to just list them when they're seated. TheSavageNorwegian 14:57, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No. A xxx-elect doesn't hold official power until officially sowrn in. Adding them to lists will only make it confusing to readers. '''[[User:CanonNi]]''' (talk|contribs) 01:16, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Bad RfC; perhaps: There is no indication of discussion prior to opening this RfC per WP:RFCBEFORE. Without opposing views/counterexamples to consider, this is not a helpful process. Whether/when/how to include an officer-elect can be decided on individual lists, and may depend on how the jurisdiction certifies an election. List of presidents of the United States has included a separate "President-elect" subsection in 2021, 2017, and 2009. I see no reason that should cause confusion, provided the entry is separate from the main list (in particular, after it). And including nothing about an elected officer will often lead to people thinking that info is missing, adding it, and then being reverted — wasting time and causing frustration. This RfC originated from a discussion within edit summaries on List of presidents of Indonesia. However, the opposing viewpoint pointed to the List of presidents of the Republic of China article, where the inclusion of a president-elect was mentioned in the list of presidents. I believe it would be more effective to raise this question here to garner greater attention and, hopefully, more input than discussing it solely on individual articles. Ckfasdf (talk) 07:18, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No as per above comments. In the Indonesian case, the current president-elect will not take office until October 20. I think a mention in the body of the article is OK, but it's unnecessary clutter in the list. Davidelit (Talk) 06:54, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Should all or any lists have images in them? Join discussion please.[edit]

Should lists of aircraft, ships, guns, land vehicles, etc have images in them? Should civilian vehicle lists have images in them, but not military vehicle lists? What about lists for people and buildings? Please join the discussion here: Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Aircraft#Images_on_list_of_aircraft,_etc. Dream Focus 00:35, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I cannot understand why this article should exist. I have started a discussion on Talk:List of company name etymologies. ColinFine (talk) 15:15, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello all,

I am proposing a change at Wikipedia talk:Contents/Lists#Standardized template to standardize all the subpages of Wikipedia:Contents/Lists using a template. This will improve the accessibility of the pages and make it easier to modifying them going forwards. Please feel free to join the discussion to view the proposed changes and share any comments you have. BrandonXLF (talk) 04:27, 29 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

List criterion dispute[edit]

There is a dispute over what the list criterion ought to be for List of undefeated mixed martial artists at Talk:List of undefeated mixed martial artists § 7 to 10. There have been several previous proposals to split this very cumbersome list, but each discussion has suffered from a sever lack of particpation, so I thought I'd notify this project. Just Step Sideways from this world ..... today 16:50, 26 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
